You do realize there is no "cure" for many mental illnesses? Also, adapting to your illness and recognizing your limitations is excellent self care. Not commenting on fic because it gives you anxiety is an excellent boundary, because at the end of the day comments on fic do not matter. So it's a perfect example of letting something go so you can use your energy to fight a more important battle.

There ain't always "cures," but there's treatment. And guess what the treatment for anxiety is? Doing the thing that makes you anxious.

Every single one of these commenters is bitching out of doing the work to alleviate their problem.

Eh, that depends on the level of anxiety, and usually doing the thing that makes someone anxious is done with supervision from a licensed counselor. Doing the anxiety-inducing thing solo is a crapshoot.

If these people have anxiety that bad, then they should all be working with a licensed counselor.

What makes you think we aren't? There is no cure for anxiety and there is no real progress. There is only management. Your abilism is showing.

There is absolutely real progress. Either you have a shitty therapist, or you're unwilling to do what's required to get better.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-23 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
There is no cure for anxiety, therefore there is no "progress". There is only management to be able to live your life. Your expectations for others are complete bullshit and I call troll.

That might be a tall order given an overall shortage of counselors available as a whole. Add in even more strapped availability in rural areas or states/provinces/territories/other regional designations with low population densities, and even having A counselor available might be a real luxury.

That is a legitimate issue.

I'm also anxious about rock climbing, and yet somehow I don't feel that's a problem I need to fix. Some of us aren't in hobbies to "do work".

Are you a rock climber?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-23 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fic commenter either! It works out great for me, even though my rock-climber and fic-commenter friends sometimes try to talk me into it.

That is not a treatment. That's a myth from people who have no professional experience, and comes from the same place as the "bootstraps" fallacy.

Sometimes it is necessary to do things that make you anxious because you need to do them for your job, but that's not "treatment." It's an accommodation that requires compromise on your part.

It's absolutely a treatment. Anxiety gets worse the more you give into it.
