VPNs

I’m going overseas next year and I want to get a VPN while I’m out of the country so I can safely use wifi. One of the YouTubers I watch has a code for SurfShark but I want to know if anyone here has used it and what they thought.

As a rule of thumb, nothing advertised by youtubers is any good. Still, if it meets your use case and security model it might be worth a shot.

Do you need it to allow torrenting? Do you worry if they leak your data? These are some of the things to consider.

The one I use is Proton vpn's free tier and it is quite fast. It only lets you access their servers in 3 countries (Japan, Netherlands, US) at this tier but I only need it occasionally to access region locked content.

Seconding all this.

I use paid proton VPN and it's quite good. I can't recommend them enough.
If you don't need torrenting and just need a VPN to connect to public WiFi, then the free tier of Proton is all you need.

It really depends on what compromises you're willing to make. No VPN is perfect, and there are quite a few that will sell your data amongst other things.
