Sure the things the burgular stole wouldn't have existed if they'd stayed in the house when he set the fire (or in some cases poured the gasoline where there were lit matches), but I don't think that's a reason to not give the stuff back.

I think if you caused the cultural damage you should do the cultural reparation, and I don't think that's complicated. Expensive, but not complicated.

exactly this

It's not always the burglar who set the fire. Often, the fire was set by a completely different person many years later.

Colonialism isn't a time-limited action.

But colonialism isn't a carte blanche for every colonialised country either and pretending people in countries that were affected by colonialism are completely innocent and only colonialism is to blame is condescending and infantilising.

nonny what is this? innocent of what? carte blanche to do what? whose using "only" here?

why don't you give me an example because it's pretty clear that the countries holding disputed artifacts are also currently politically active in those countries.

You are the one who pretends that the only reason the artifacts in question are not safe in their country of origin is because colonialism alone is to blame for why it's not safe. You can pretend all you like that this is not what you're doing but you are.

No, quite literally saying "pouring gasoline around lit matches" presupposed the matches are also responsible for fire. But you can quote me where I say differently!

But again, this is easily solved. What country, with disputed artifacts held elsewhere, is unstable unrelated to colonialism? It should be easy for you to give an example.

I did, in fact, read this wrong/seem to have confused two comments, my bad.

Yeah this is a very good point, half the shit in there wouldn't have needed 'saving' if the British Empire hadn't been actively invading those places to begin with.
