Since when is smiling at someone and shaking a hand schmoozing?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's definitely schmoozing

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You think this is a chance encounter, like they just ran into one another at Whole Foods or something and stopped to chat about the weather? And there just happened to be photographers there?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
.....it was at a UFC match. So it likely was a chance encounter.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So like, Guy Fieri stumbled into Trump while on his way to get popcorn and Trump was just helping him up? And Fieri had to thank him for his quick reflexes because it's the polite thing to do?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
>Guy Fieri stumbled into Trump while on his way to get popcorn

Yeah. Have you never been to a sporting event? You know that they have special areas for VIPs, right?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
And he couldn't say, "Excuse me" and keep walking? They had to shake hands and have a friendly chat, while photographers were snapping away?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
How do you know they chatted? He could have just said hello (like a non asshole) and that was that.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
You're really determined to defend Guy Fieri in this matter, huh? Weird.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
He's done more good work for people in a year than everyone on this sub combined has done in their lifetime. I'm so fucking sick of this "If someone does one thing that we can perceive as bad (like being polite), that person is shit who should be shunned." That is why liberals keep eating their own and contributed to Trump winning the election.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT—I agree that sometimes the fastest way out of an uncomfortable situation is to be polite, and I could see rando celebs just gritting their teeth and shaking Trump's tiny hand, but every time someone claims leftist infighting=Trump winning, or people being rude to Trump supporters=Trump winning, I tune them out, because somehow right wing nutjobs can be not just rude but actually physically violent and yet still eke out wins. Why are only Republicans allowed to be shit-flinging chimps with zero long term consequences?

Plus no reasonable person is gonna go "Guy Fieri shunned Trump at a sporting event, so I changed my party affiliation and voted Republican for the first time ever because Republicans are the last bastion of decorum."

If liberals and Democrats have to get people who think like that on board to win elections, we're doomed. People should be encouraged to shun fascist shitstains.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
People who talk like you would never have the guts to shun anyone in real life. If you met Trump, you'd be too terrified of him smearing your name or ruining your life in some other way out of pettiness to be anything other than polite.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT—actually, I'm accidentally rude a lot of the time and deliberately so occasionally, although I haven't run into any former presidents that I know of. It's cost me a promotion at work at least once but I've also won accolades for the work I do.

I'd certainly avoid shaking Trump's (or Dubya's) hand if I was ever in a position to meet them, and honestly I'm enough of a nobody that Trump certainly would see nothing to gain by acknowledging me anyway.

I'd be unlikely to go past deliberately leaving his little hand hanging and, say, spit on him, though, because as I said sometimes just gritting your teeth and being minimally polite is necessary and just refusing to touch him would be enough to make my point without my being tackled by secret service agents or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This is such an insanely baseless thing to say??

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
>Why are only Republicans allowed to be shit-flinging chimps with zero long term consequences?

Because they vote for flawed people unlike Democrats.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Photographers are generally at sports matches, and celebrities going to the same sports match often run into one another.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you think schmoozing is?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you think it is? I've never seen schmoozing be used unless people are trying to talk someone into something or make connections.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Being seen shaking hands and smiling with people is making connections.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt - Exactly. Weird how the ayrt is resisting this concept so hard, like it's not a thing.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
... what? That's literally just basic polite behavior.

Like damn, this whole thread is proving to me that some of y'all never leave the house.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's proving to you that many people are disinclined to be polite and friendly to Donald Trump, a sexual predator, rapist and con man.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Please note that downthread, another nonny points out that Guy Fieri is known for his philanthropy, and part of that philanthropy is making nice with people who have money, so they'll donate to causes he supports. And that shaking hands and being friendly with rich assholes is a huge part of that strategy. Does that qualify as schmoozing to you?

nayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-07-26 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, yeah, being nice to somebody so maybe they will do something for you is kinda the definition of schmoozing.
