I personally wouldn't mind the subtext upon subtext but I don't like watching dramas/tv shows in general so while I read a lot of BL novels, I'm just not into the drama adaptations. I liked MDZS- the novel for The Untamed- but mainly fast forwarded through the series because I found it quite tedious to watch.
I think though the reason why you're not into a thing isn't that important, sometimes stuff doesn't click with you and that's okay. And those suckers usually have 50ish episodes, that's a shitload of time to invest into something you dont enjoy.
