First exposure to fanfic was BtVS fanfic back in the very early 00's. I was fourteen and obsessed with Buffy, and looking online for stuff about the show.

For a long time I was pretty big on canon-adherence, and I also tended to prefer female characters, so slash wasn't really my scene back then.

I can say for sure that the first non-het ship I ever read was actually femslash--Buffy/Faith to be specific.

I think the first M/M ship I very lightly dabbled in was Young/Rush from Stargate Universe, and my first full-on M/M OTP was Johnlock.

Same. I think the first fic I stumbled upon was a Buffy/Spike one where they got married and had lots of babies. I thought it was totally ridiculous because the person who wrote it clearly didn't watch the show if they thought a happily ever after with babies could ever happen.
