Source is "it's an archive, not a morality guidebook, so they're not going to take down a fic just because someone thinks it's racist."

I thought that might be the underlying, actual gripe, but I try to give people the opportunity to tell me if they've got some legitimate grievance I hadn't heard of.

100% in favor of the AO3 sticking to its "no censorship here" guns, if that needs to be said.

There are absolutely extremely legitimate gripes here, separate from people demanding fic censorship. Saying that the people who are criticizing OTW just want to censor fic is categorically wrong. The person saying that is either disingenuous or misinformed. Those people exist but it's not the only part of the complaint. It's just that the broader problems require an in-depth explanation because there's been a lot of shit going on and it's a wide range of things to have to explain and apparently no one on this somewhat sleepy comm wants to explain them.

And tbh I don't really want to explain it in depth either, but off the top of my head, the two biggest controversies right now are Alex Tischer (who has now resigned from the board) being extremely flippant about Chinese volunteers' safety concerns and consistently disrespectful in dealing with Chinese volunteers, and the board sending an official conduct warning to a volunteer who hadn't really broken any rules in a serious way but had been extremely critical of the organization's methods of dealing with racism. But there's been a lot more stuff in recent months as well. It's been a lot of very real and legitimate problems with things the board and the org have done, and with how the organization looks after the well being of volunteers, and the organization's way of dealing with things in general.
