Alright, nobody's gonna see this because who reads fandomsecrets after two days? But I have to shout ot from the rooftops that this movie is... it's good, actually. Like, it does have flaws, but I was drawn in after a while and it has strengths as well. I was definitely entertained! Here's some PROS and CONS based on my entirely subjective opinion as someone who has never read the books in their entirety and is not a history buff. (But at least my country borders on France? lol)

PROS
- 99% is shot on location! No shitty CGI castles or some such. Real, gorgeous architecture. Real landscapes with fog, for your horses to gallop through.
- great actors and actresses. Standouts for me were Vincent Cassel (Athos) and Vicky Krieps (Queen Anna), both bring their own kind of gravitas and quiet dignity respectively. d'Artagnan and Constance did grow on me.
- there are fighting scenes and one of them features a long take with a choreography that must have been exhausting to plan and film. they're not afraid of showing blood on the weapons, or dead bodies, and alluding to torture, but it's still relatively bloodless and the torture isn't shown onscreen.
- it feels fairly down-to-earth overall, with some humor or sweetness occasionally thrown in. like, it's not over-the-top gritty, but it's not a thinly veiled superhero movie with witty oneliners galore.
- confirmed bisexual Porthos (and not just mentioned in passing, they show him in a morning-after scene in bed with a man and a woman)
- the writers edited the script to make the relationship between d'Artagnan and Constance have more consent and agency for Constance, instead of him coming on too strong all the time
- the scene between Anne and Buckingham after they averted an assault with the help of the musketeers and then have to say goodbye, did give me the feels.
- Athos' letter that he wrote in prison also gave me feels, oh god *sobs*
- there's one scene with a Wilhelm scream and they give it to a DOVE during a hunting scene. A+
- lots of excellent mustaches
- I could follow the plot despite my ADHD

CONS
- the long take fight scene I mentioned above? it's shaky cam
- definitely too much handheld camera. it's nowhere near the editing nightmares of modern action movies, but it is overstepping the line at least once
- not enough horses
- occasional cheese from a variety of people. Eva Green runs around quaffing a pipe sinisterly, like she's auditioning for an entirely different movie. (I do like her, but I expected, uh, something that wasn't that.)
- the colour palette is entirely too drab for the time and everything looks to dark, like they used a tinted filter. Ye Olden Times can't look to colourful or they won't take our movie seriously! Because we are serious movie
- Aramis is kind of a mean bitch in this and a tiny bit psycho
- some characters aren't fleshed out much and don't get as much time to shine, including Richelieu and Porthos

Again, I have no idea what *you* would want from a Musketeers adaptation so maybe you'll be disappointed regardless, but in my personal opinion I recommend it and I will absolutely watch part two when it comes out!
