This was my main problem with all of the Rogue One characters, tbh. It was hardly something exclusive to her, they were all fairly flat.

After all these years, my impression of people who feel this way is that they aren't very smart.

I watched a horror movie about a week ago called 'Come Play.' The underlying "thesis" of the film is that our addiction to screens is making us more lonely, a point which was made very well by the narrative itself -- but the writers apparently felt that the audience might not get it, so there was a scene in which it was literally spelled out.

That's what would have made 'Rogue One' "better:" if the writers had told people what they are supposed to think and feel, and had instructed the actors to do the same. Instead, they expected the audience to work it out themselves, which has resulted in some people thinking it's the best Star Wars film there is, and others (the stupid ones) thinking it's "flat."

I never said I thought it was a bad film. I actually thought it was quite a good film, but I still feel like the characters were somewhat flat simply because there wasn't enough screentime to give them enough development to make me really get attached to them the way I did with the characters from the original trilogy. I think it would have benefited from being a bit longer to flesh all of the characters out a little more.

I love Andor and Rogue One. I love them way more than any other Star Wars properties, because for me, they feel like the first Star Wars properties I can watch with my brain fully engaged, and come away totally satisfied.

But with that said...it just feels a bit arrogant and dickish to assume the detractors aren't that smart. Like, I get where you're coming from, I really do. It's hard for me to imagine not loving Andor, not appreciating the nuance, sensitivity, and maturity of S1.

But there are "smart" shows out there that just aren't my bag, for one reason or another.

da

But totally agree with not attacking people's intelligence just because they dislike something you think is terribly intellectually satisfying.
