I completely agree with this, I used to PAY on LJ to have extra icons, just so I could have all the icons!, and I used to spend hours and hours MAKING icons, but these days I mostly don't even bother changing my icon to something else on the comment/post, because icons don't seem to have the same feel to them here. I can't even find many active icon communities on DW (theres a couple, but its not like it used to be).

Photobucket suddenly turning around to charge hundreds and then blocking the image links probably didn't help. Image hosting was essentially the thing that was the backbone to LJ and although be have things like Imgur, its not been known to be as reliable as the early years with photobucket.

From what I've seen from some still active icon makers, trying to find somewhere reliable has been a challenge.

My impression was that this was hugely detrimental to icon making culture in general.
