Is that really what the animation looks like?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Having watched it (and loved it), it seems very similar to the Arcane animation where it's a mix of clean animation and an almost... papery look? It looked amazing to me.

Maybe it looks better in motion? In the screenshot in the secret it looks like Flash animation or something

No, that's a stillshot. Animation moves.
queenslayerbee: Isabelle Adjany as Lucy Harker in 1979's "Nosferatu the Vampire". She's surrounded by darkness, looking over her shoulder while she wears a white nightgown and a cross as a necklace. A hand with long nails like a claw is reaching for her neck from the darkness behind her. (Default)

I only read the comic very recently, because I had it already and some friends wanted to watch the film (those plans never went through). I loved the comic. Only then I saw the first gifs on tumblr... and the animation style alone put me off. I just really digged the comic's.

But I might've eventually built up the desire to watch it if I hadn't seen commentary like this. I just like what I like lol.

I genuinely didn't like the animation but I figured I would support it because we need more animated shows centered around queer characters. Still sad that Netflix canceled "Dead End: Paranormal Park". :/

Was gingerhaze involved in the show?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
(Sorry idk if they still go by gingerhaze and idk their "real" name.)

I remember them talking about how they had complicated feelings about the comic and if they were to do it again they would change a lot. So I'm wondering if the changes were direct from the creator or just general changes for a different/new audience?

I never picked up the comic because the art didn't appeal to me.

Loved the movie though.

"Wouldn't it be great if the queers suffered more?"

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
I want to call you a troll, but maybe you're just young. Trust me kiddo, you're gonna get bored or frustrated so fast if all you watch and read is people being mostly happy all the time, queer or not.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not criticizing it for not being "happy all the time." There's plenty of suffering in the movie, I feel, considering someone gets his arm cut off and is being made the scapegoat of a conspiracy theory that pits his own boyfriend against him. Just pointing out that they're basically asking for the queers to suffer EVEN MORE as if there isn't a ton of stuff out there where we get our misery porn.

Some queers enjoy darker themes the same way as straight people do. Mind blowing concept, I know.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I enjoy darker themes, but when the work already deals with queer suffering and you want them to suffer EVEN MORE, it makes me side-eye you.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I am hardcore side eying you right now for policing what is acceptable to like or want as a queer person.

Never read the comic but I missed Ambrosius's lustrous locks.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
man, I never finished the comic, and I loved the movie, but ngl the difference was staggering. like, Ambrosius is supposed to be this cartoony bad and annoying guy, and instead he's like a dreamy paladin.
BUT ngl I really loved the reveal of them being gay and in love from the start. yeah, it's way different from the original, but now I realize how much I would love more LGBT stuff like this - where being queer is not the point of the story, well, not literally lol.
anyway yeah, I completely agree with the secret, but idk, it's not a bad thing and I'm glad this movie exists.

Nimona herself was the worst part of the movie for me. All her dialogue and body language was so "How do you do, fellow Hip Teens?"
