Well, yeah? I'm not sure this is a surprise or much of a revelation? It's Disney, everything they do is about making as much money as they can off of every film they make. Christ I remember being a kid when The Lion King was a hit and all the Lion King merch EVERYWHERE. It was great I still have a mini pride-rock toy set.

Also see: literally ALL of the current MCU merch and toys.

yeah, but selling a different version of the same character is new. the other live action princesses weren't different enough to launch a whole new line.

There was a ton of new Belle merch for the LA Beauty and the Beast, though?

There was literally a doll with Emma Watson's face. It was creepy.

They've all had new merch, because they're made for kids so they sell toys to kids, hell I think the Cindrella LA had a make-up collection collab with a brand, a quick google shows me a Barbie doll and headphones. So yeah, new merch is a thing.

And with the "live action" of The Lion King there were merch with the characters in their "realistic version". It wasn't as popular as the animated merch, but there were.
