Often, in the lead up to a large blockbuster release, the stars will go to many events and appear in various press outlets to promote the upcoming movie that they are in. This is one thing that helps people hear about the movies and convince them to buy tickets.

That's very much the orthodoxy, but I have to wonder if it actually works that way. I tune out "making the rounds to drum up interest" interviews, even for movies I'm planning to watch, because they are so low content and uninformative. The actors, if they have talent, are putting it into pretending they aren't bored silly from having to answer the same stupid, shallow question for the zillionth time.
