Books!

I don't check in daily, but I think it's been a minute since we talked books. What's everyone reading? Last good book you finished?

I just finished Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn and was pleasantly surprised. Nothing fancy, but an enjoyable read about older lady assassins not taking shit laying down. Lots of satisfying competence and friendship.

I've been trying to read Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven. Not feeling it yet but I'm not far in. It better be worth me putting off my Slewfoot checkout on libby!

Currently reading Malignant by Anita Waller and Atlantis Gold by Rick Chesler. I don't have much left of Malignant so I'm going to try to finish it tonight if I can. It's good but I'm nervous about the ending (one of the MCs has cancer and while I hope they survive, I'm not sure they're going to--not a spoiler; it's mentioned in the synopsis, and, well, the title, really). Atlantis Gold is decent but sort of generic. One of these days I'm going to find something in this genre that's really good, I swear.

Once I finish Malignant I'm going to start something else, but I keep going back and forth between romance and mystery.

The last really good book I read was All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby, which was amazing.

I've been too mentally exhausted to read. I have a huge stack of fantasy books I want to read and I just haven't had the bandwidth. I even tried to do a LOTR reread, couldn't even manage that. I want to be able to read, damn it.

I'm in that phase right now. I go through where I'll read a book a day or so and then suddenly nope, no more attention span or mental energy for reading. Forcing it never helps, I just have to wait it out until I get hooked again. It sucks, because I do want to read, it's just not going to happen when my brain is like this.

I just can't. I also have a giant list of new things I want to watch, but all I've managed is youtube videos and the occasional rewatch.

I'm halfway through Trinity by Louisa Hall. It's a novel about Robert Oppenheimer, as seen through the eyes of 7 different OCs. So if you're interested in the topic and would appreciate the perspectives of female characters with rich, complex inner lives (Christopher Nolan blinks in confusion), it's worth checking out.
