I wonder if people like that honestly don't know that characters can't see what we write about them. Or even that characters don't have real feelings.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? This honestly made me laugh.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like, this dude isn't real....He can't be offended or hurt by people writing him in sexual situations.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
All of this.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that is total bullshit and more offensive to survivors than someone writing porn of a character that is a survivor.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if these critics know how fucking stupid they sound, or if they don't care as long as it means they can keep you from creating the things they consider icky.

Pretty sure the whole point is trying to control other people. The upside is that their persuasion techniques leave a lot to be desired, and they can't actually do anything against the mountains of fanfics that flout all their attempted rule-enforcing. So I just go out of my way to be a little friendlier and more sociable when I know other authors in my fandom are writing the controversial stuff.

They sure can ruin select lives over it, though. Like getting them fired from their job by saying "we have evidence that this employee is a pedophile" and the evidence is underage fanfic, or outing fans who live in countries where being gay is illegal.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sources? I'm not saying this isn't happening, but I'd like to know what you've seen and where.

+1

I'd also like more details and evidence.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
If antis have gotten people fired from their jobs for writing underage or thrown in jail for being gay, that sounds like something to name names over. Which harassers, on which blog(s) and so on.

Otherwise, you're spreading around the rumor that nothing can be done against them, when that's not true.

SA

Also, ironically enough, given how kinks work ... I strongly suspect there are fanfic authors who would have moved on to write other stuff, if there weren't this delicious thrill of people having such a big reaction to their doing these specific things with these characters. And insisting that they're not allowed to do it.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh that's so weird, normally a character being a victim of SA galvanises the fandom into giving them all the healing cock. Either way it doesn't matter as they're not real so who cares if people are writing porn about them.

....That's pretty much what I was thinking. Almost all my fandoms have some character who has widespread fanon of past sexual abuse, and people are ALWAYS writing smut about them ("healing cock" variety or otherwise). I don't think I've ever seen anyone say that even the stories where it explicitly spelled out "this character survived sexual abuse" shouldn't contain healthy sexual content. o_o

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on the fandom, Some fandom tends to attract people who will say anything for their fave not be "sexualized". If this character wasn't a survivor, chances are that they would look for another reason for why it's problematic to write smut of them.

Have to agree with you, anon.

yeeesh.

Does this person realize they're not stopping anybody?

*sigh* and the sad thing is they do this shit with people. "Don't sexualize yourself!" ahahah bitch what?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
the whole notion that someone is too traumatized/mentally ill/"broken" to engage in consensual sexual activity skeeves me the hell out because it implies the survivor has completely lost their agency and is incapable of giving consent. i understand wanting more ace representation in media or fanfic but this ain't it.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and “asexuality is a trauma response” isn’t exactly the diversity win some people think it is either.
