We know Pratchett would have liked the love story angle, if that helps. He spoke about how A and C were sort of in love at fancons before he passed.

Mm, that's a good point-- I can see Neil's feelings changing over time for a lot of reasons, but SO much of this was that making it was the last thing Terry asked him to do, and his drive has been to make something Terry would like. And Terry was, iirc, the one who sort of 'canonized' the South Downs thing.
