(Anonymous) 2023-08-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)I think if Jonathan and Steve had actually been allowed to be friends and interact after fighting a monster together with Nancy, then Steve/Jonathan or Steve/Nancy/Jonathan would have been interesting, and the way the show played out, there wasn't enough. Billy/Steve is LOATHSOME to me and I genuinely cannot read Billy as *attracted* to men, BUT, I think there's a sexual component to his bullying of Steve/trying to take his 'crown'? Like, in the way that sexual harassment is about power rather than attraction, and the way that it's rooted in *competition*? But I don't think Neil Hargrove being homophobic ACTUALLY has anything to do with his son's sexuality-- I think he saw his son get an ear piercing and decided at that point that everything he did from that point on would be viewed through a certain lens, like he's of a generation where he'd immediately jump to 'this looks gay', whereas *Billy* is in the generation where *which ear you get pierced matters*, and his is the 'straight' ear.
