I had no idea that it was originally designed by a schoolteacher who was recovering from some illness in a hospital, in the middle of an epidemic of childhood polio, and drew a simple boardgame intended to entertain children who had low energy levels, many of whom were too young to know how to read. Hit me right in the feels, though, when I realized 1) that the original boy and girl were wearing leg braces, and 2) the end of the path when people won the game back then was just getting to go "home" - from the hospital.
