I'm not trying to imply that slash fans don't care about the characters they write about. It's very apparent to me that we care a great deal about them. But I get why you'd think I gave that part short-shirft.

I also don't think everyone who writes like this is heterosexual. What I think I'm looking at is that they're well acquainted with heteronormative sexual expectations, including fairly subtle ones that have less to do with gay people and more to do with patriarchy, like the assumption that the penetrative partner is (and should be) in control of the action.
