Possibly. John W. Campbell was a pretty shitty person, but he reined in a lot of sci-fi writers. (Conversely, when he asked Robert Heinlein to write Sixth Column, Heinlein toned the plot down from unbelievably racist to just really racist.)

I was thinking of how Ike was very careful with the money, actually. He would give the creators a budget, and they had to stick to it. Now, it seems like their spending enormous amounts of money on CGI and the like, and storytelling has gone by the wayside.

So, as much as it sucks, I think it makes sense that "terrible people" tend to produce better work than "good people." Why? Because the terrible people care more about their vision than they do about most other things. The "good people," on the other hand, are more likely to play it safe, to tone down their vision in order to make it more palatable. They want you to like them. They're terrified that you won't.

idk, while I would agree that phase 1 was the best, taken with phase 2, those phases (which are the only ones where Ike had any control) have as many hits and misses as phase 3, and the only truly great movie in phase 2 is winter soldier (though gotg is above average).

I also feel like we know what he's like from the tv shows, and once again....only the first seasons of that were any good, to the point where I actually agree that he was probably a liability to the movies too.

eta: i forgot to add that I think the problem is that feige is paying less attention to phase 4 than that he was being reined in by ike.

I mean, if you're missing Perlmutter's influence you could always go watch his baby, the Inhumans series. Honestly the worst thing Marvel has ever put out, and they fucked up the X-Men comics in order to promote the Inhumans and make them the super special ones, which...was flawed at best. I can only say it's not the worst thing I've ever watched because a) I've seen the Star Wars Holiday Special and b) the Hawaiian scenery was gorgeous. But when they killed off the one major black character first, I stopped.

And don't forget the good guy MCs were really, really into slavery.

I don't think he helped, if anything I think he really hurt the franchise by keeping Black Panther and Black Widow from getting made. Black Panther made a billion dollars and Black Widow wasn't good but it could have been good in 2016. Both are Ls on his sheet. Not to mention the decay of the Netflix shows as he wanted them cheaper and cheaper.

As for the current decay I think I blame Disney+. They threw so much money at so many projects and they're almost all mediocre. That's sucking up so much talent and not leaving anything to percolate properly.
