Either way, the best option is probably to take a break from that fandom. Maybe after a while you won't be oversaturated with it and will be able to enjoy it again. Or you'll find another main fandom, though I'm aware that's not as easy for everyone.

I'm also in the fandom of a very long-running canon and yeah, my interest is never zero, but it does come and go depending on what's going on in canon. It's always come back so far!

I haven't read her first-hand, although I've had fun reading/watching reviews that trashed her books lol. If I did read them my issue would hardly be about the female protagonists though. All her male characters sound exactly like everything I hate xD

Possibly. John W. Campbell was a pretty shitty person, but he reined in a lot of sci-fi writers. (Conversely, when he asked Robert Heinlein to write Sixth Column, Heinlein toned the plot down from unbelievably racist to just really racist.)

I feel vaguely similar. I don't much care for the show. The movie was better, but it when I watched it I couldn't help but think of it like a Senior Project. It felt unpolished, on almost every level. Still better than the show.

Monster Sanctuary is as close as I've ever played to a mons game where you can keep that mon you like throughout the entire game. It tries to be balanced such that every mon is viable, even unevolved mons.

Honestly, my sense of game balance is garbage, so I have no idea whether it succeeds at this, but it's definitely trying.

Oh god I have a friend who is so obsessed with this show. I've tried watching it with her but I really don't get it. At least with youtube react videos (or the ones I used to watch in the 2010s) it was usually reacting to something actually interesting or 'weird'.

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve been in the mood several times the last year for romance but couldn’t find anything to scratch the itch. Most of what I came across sounded so bland and tropey or the premise came off as too try-hard. Very much the vibe of “not like other girls” as mentioned in a previous secret.
