High-powered characters are always a tricky balance between 'the audience vibes with this power fantasy' and 'too flat, no real problems, seems fake'.

(I haven't read this series, so have no opinions on how Maas manages that balance.)

NAYRT - Oof, that person's review sounds like me when I was twenty-one and insufferable and wanted to think of myself as an academic type.

Haven't read the series, so I can't say whether I'd agree with any of their points. It's possible I would. But the vibe is tiresome, and the quotes they've chosen don't support their interpretations and assertions very well, IMO.
