I mean, you're already on DW and DWRP exists. Lots of people are either returning to it or finding it new after leaving tumblr/twitter pits of toxicity, you'll be in good company.

Not OP, but a DW Newbie. But how does DWRP work and where would you even start? Are you expected to have a blog just for it or...?

I'm in a roleplay here on dreamwidth and I don't fully grasp how DWRP works....... It's .... very.

People usually have a separate journal for each character, so all the icons can be different emotions/expressions. A lot of the OOC chatter is either on plurk or discord, and unfortunately there aren't too many super active central clearinghouses any more - a lot of people have settled comfortably into long-running games or PSLs (private story lines) with friends.

bakerstreet (https://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/) is still running, though, people post what are basically big open scenarios/prompts, and you can reply to anybody in character to start an RP scene based on it, or leave a toplevel comment of your character's reaction for people to reply to. Memes tend to be EXTREMELY hit or miss, so don't feel discouraged if you don't get a lot of bites right away, and some of the posts are way more active/popular than others, but it's a place to meet DWRPers from various games/genres/preferences and see how they do things.

it does take some getting used to! generally, an account is a single character, but you can have a player account linking to the others. my main advice would be to take a look at rp communities like [community profile] bakerstreet or [community profile] dear_player and see what other people post and how!

the icons mentioned upthread are a pretty important part of journal rp because they add like, a vibe to the comment, but you DO NOT need to have 100+ for efficient or effective rp. it's a nice bonus, not a requirement!

and, as always, remember that community roleplay is going to be defined by the community involved. it's not the site, it's the people you happen to find on it. i've had wonderful AND awful experiences everywhere from here to gaiaonline and all that gave me was the confidence to say that if you do suck at it, then, sucking is just part of the process! BE EMBARRASSING. POST THOSE COMMENTS. YOU WON'T GET BETTER AT IT IF YOU DON'T!!

*gestures broadly at our cube* ... okay that is a lot less alive than it could be because the flame of constant activity died down since we made it and we never managed to attract new members, but it is a forum with roleplaying on it and we try to be welcoming to new members.

... and while I don't recommend going to TV Tropes specifically for roleplay, they do have a roleplay section in their forums and people do tend to be reasonably active. So that's an option if you're already into vigilante taxonomy.

People still RP on dreamwidth if you ever want to give it a try. There's a list of games/places to rp over on [personal profile] dwrpmasterlist that they keep up to date.

RpNation is also a good place to check out, they have a discord, too, if you need more guidance I am sure there are ppl willing to help you out and find your way

I've always wanted to have a try at Roleplaying, but never quite got the hang of it. But attempting a few times DID get me started on writing my own fanfiction for the first time, so there's my upside haha.
