It's only a fringe opinion if you voice it where everyone online who keeps up with fandomstuff can hear you. When people are just talking within their circle of friends, it's not even likely to spark disagreement. Ender's Game was entertaining when I was in high school, and the chances of me following a Mormon anywhere are nil.

I don't know. I think some people really want the least of their consumer choices to be Of Transcendent Moral Importance, and get really bent out of shape when other people either don't even notice or aren't impressed. But I'm not going to treat a peer like Gandhi for hauling cloth bags to the supermarket, and I'm definitely not going to admire their moral fiber for shunning Harry Potter. All of that involves a level of scrutiny about stuff that's really none of my business, and to me, it actually seems pretty busybody-ish and indecent to go around looking over other people's shoulders like that.
