Honestly, unless you're starting all the way in eastern Europe, probably driving to Malta even if it requires ferries is easier and takes less time and money than driving from LA to NY. It takes like several days, minimum

Except fuel is much, much more expensive in Europe than in the US plus a lot of European countries have expensive tolls you have to buy for every different country that has them. So no, probably not cheaper at all.

Yep. Drove from Belgium through the Netherlands into Germany with a friend once and there were tolls everywhere on the way.
