Another NAYRT

Look, as an Australian I love living here. I live in a metro city that is a few hours drive from Sydney. And even in that situation there is just not a lot of fandom stuff to go to. Like, people who don't live here I don't think *get* the smaller scale of events that happen here because the population is so much smaller. Or that there are 'small' US towns that are considered big cities here. And because the population is smaller, the online communities are much less open, because it's pretty easy to work out someone's identity when the subculture communities are so small.

And I'm in a best case scenario. Someone who lives in regional or rural Australia might live a day's drive from the next rural town. And that's on top of not having an online community in your time zone. And that's not even getting into it being a legitimate issue that there is worse healthcare and job prospects in regional Aus than in metro Aus.

It's definitely 1st world problems (though, depending on how remote OP that might not even be completely true). But having a fantasy of having an online community that is a few hours drive away *is* a fantasy for some people, even if that fantasy isn't that good in reality.
