I try to look at the bright side: I can't go to the cons and will never spend that much money on shipping + custom fees so in the end I save up money because I can't spend it! LOL BIG WIN FOR ME
Plus a bonus: thanks to the limitation of living in a small rural town in EU and wanting to participate in fandom and have good fandom stuff I can show off I got to pick up a few skills: English, drawing and sewing. I can't have prints delivered to me so I just said fuck it and began drawing myself. Sewing is not for cosplaying, but because I gift fandom related bags and accessories (usually napkins, towels etc) to my friends.
But yeah, still envying the USA people for their relatively inexpensive merch...

Merch is definitely cheaper and more readily available here. I suspect that if OP had focused on that, this thread would have been very different.

I think it’s so cool you’ve learned the things you have! Most of us in America cannot speak other languages and arts are beyond the reach of anyone who doesn’t have some natural talent. I’m lucky that I can sew a little but I don’t have to so I never make anything cool. I’d love to see the bags you make!
