I don’t think anyone is upset to hear this though? OP assumes if they lived in the US it would be easy to go to cons and meet up with friends. And Americans are pointing out that isn’t necessarily true. And OP is bashing Americans for dispelling their fantasy.

This. It's like telling the homeless person how lucky they are to live in New York. Like, sure, New York has a lot of great stuff, but the homeless aren't getting to enjoy any of it.

It's nothing like this though. They made a broad generalisation that most people agree is generally true.

Looks to me like it's actually "most people not in the US agree is generally true". So... people who haven't actually done it. We do have one person who is from Europe who had to do a road trip in the States, and surprise, surprise, they agree with the Americans....
