I have never liked AO3. Astolat always rubbed me the wrong way even during the LJ days so I wasn't enthused about her idea. The website is ugly, it's still in beta, and the only reason it has any functionality is because 1) the volunteers work so hard and 2) AO3 needs to be savagely bullied into adding functions that other websites have had since the 00s. (The only reason they added a block and mute function is because Zoomers on TikTok and Twitter dragged them for months until they couldn't ignore the noise anymore.)

I look at the current OTW/AO3 drama with a lot of satisfaction as a result. The only good thing about OTW was their willingness to host darkfic. Otherwise it is still a byproduct of the worst impulses and magical thinking from the LJ era. AO3 was never good and it's about time people started realizing that.
