Did I miss something? I'm also very much looking forward to a live action version that might actually be /good/ this time.

I was gonna ask the same thing. I don't follow the live action myseld but last I heard things seemed to go well and the people I know who are into ATLA were all cautiously optimistic. Did something happens since this year's Netflix Tudum?

Given how badly M. Night Shyamalan botched it, I'm almost cautiously optimistic. Netflix is really really going to have to try hard to be worse than the M. Night version.

The only thing I know of/that I heard is that the original creators dropped out of it? So I think people are worried it's going to be bad now.

That's all I know because I don't follow it, I never watched more than a few episodes of the show because I didn't really like it.

and didn't that all happen like, two or three years ago now? and yet we've heard nothing about the show even being filmed or produced or anywhere in release schedules. meanwhle the live action One Piece was slammed through in under a year? what sort of development hell is ATLA stuck in?

Live action One Piece is years in the making though? Where are you getting the one year thing from? I think Oda said something about it taking 7 years until it was finally done.

There was also a big to-do about Sokka's actor possibly not having the Native ancestry he claimed to have (some of which turned right back around to being racist in and of itself, unfortunately), which I think was never officially addressed, but that was also over a year ago.
