I feel like there's too much shoe-horning of Spock into things sometimes too. Like, I know it's not an original take, but it really bugs me that Michael Burnham (DISCO) had to be Spock's sister. As though we needed that connection somehow to make her appealing? Ugh.

But I also dislike the arrival of Kirk in SNW. I simply do not care about him. Shoving him in there seems cutesy or to 'look what we can do, hee hee' somehow.

This, honestly. It's like they want to make him the Tony Stark of Star Trek. Do they think us incapable of caring about new characters on their own merits? It's something I expect from a new fanfic writer learning how to create characterization, not professionals.

Oh god, yes, exactly. It's just so boring.

yeah I liked that it was a good nod to the original series to see kirk, but they also had scotty in the most recent ep, so we have kirk, spock, uhura and scotty in the show now, so I am just waiting for the others to show up too, so they can make the OG reboot they clearly want to make.

YESSSSSSS. It is just a little bit too 'just so' and the whole Kirk/La'an thing was in no way compelling, and yeah. I want to learn more about M'Benga and Chapel and Number One and La'an and Pike and Ortegas, I don't want all this 'hahaha look! we added your old faves because we feel like you need that to like this show, isn't it cute how we've done it' bullshit.

Isn't he only semi-responsible for one of those Spocks?

OP

He's responsible for the decline of my appreciation of Spock. I love original Spock, and he was fine, I guess, in the first Reboot Trek. But ST:ITD? What the FUCK was that shit? The third movie did some redeeming, but at this point if I never see Spock again (not you, Nemoy, I love you and miss you) it will be too soon.

ayrt

Alright, sure, I get that. I didn't want to see Into Darkness because it sounded stupid to me, and when it came on TV and I watched the first few minutes, I noped out after deciding I was right. (I did watch Beyond, but years after it was released because of that, still a little miffed because I really liked Beyond.) But I was thinking that the writers (Kurtzman, Orci, and Lindelof) and Quinto maybe deserve at least a little of the blame.

OP

Pretty sure the script didn't specify that Spock had to accept death with arms out like Jesus and snarl when defeating Kahn. Also, directors are called that because, among other things, they direct how actors perform, so I won't blame Quinto for it. That was all JJ. The script was BAD, but the way it was presented was the most egregious.

STID sucked - holy God did it suck, worst Star Trek movie. But it can't take TOS Spock away from me.

And honestly, the Ethan Speck Spock isn't really bad. It's just the writing around him puts too much weight on him. I mean he's no Leonard Nimoy but there's only one of them.
