For anyone interested in the BTS dirt on how soulless the studios were about the Hobbit movies, Lindsay Ellis has a great series on it. She interviews an NZ actor who played one of the dwarves, and it really drives home the difference between how the Rings films were made and how the Hobbit ones were. Not to mention, like, fucking up labour rights for actors in this part of the world permanently, lol.

I think the motivations behind a creative project always come through in the final product. The Hobbit films were... just empty, somehow.

God, the interviews hurt. The dwarf actors were so ready to be the next Fellowship in terms of actor camaraderie and they got shafted.
