Oh yes, people still play (at least, if the discord is any indication). New content keeps coming out, too. Just this past month there was a lovely horticultural show. You should have seen it: the plants, the people, the horrifying abominations from the roof that came down in a giant stalactite and tried to wreck the city, the airships we got to fight back in, the giant eyeball of doom, it was truly a sight.

they've done a lot of work to improve the early game as well in the last couple years, so that you don't get so stuck/overwhelmed by options
