A03 isn't perfect. I'm just not sure what else there is that is even close. Everything else is miles worse, IMHO.

I agree. I've been reading and posting fic since 1998, and AO3 is the best site I've used. Simple UI, beginner friendly, easily searchable tags, legible pages and fonts, easy to read, NO ADS, can download to PDF if you like, etc.

The weird detractors who think it's going away are delusional.

Squidgeworld is any fandom. Ad Astera is Trek only. Both are using the open source version of the Ao3 software.

FF.net is hard to upload to, barely any tagging, can't download fics.
Wattpad is a hot mess.
LJ/DW are difficult to get any audience for your work.
AO3 is amazing and not only free but ad-free and that's an achievement in itself. Nothing is better despite the behind-the-scenes drama and some people's desire for AO3 to be something it is not (diary entries, placeholders for unwritten fic, a site that recommends fic to them).
