I liked some aspects certainly. But the leaning hard into the 'all undocumented people are precious persecuted angels' got a bit much and then killing off Rios by leaving him behind and the Borg ending which got massively overlooked/retconned in s3 leaves me puzzled.

This only applies to the later Discovery seasons, which in my opinion were much weaker. The first couple seasons were really good.

Jump scares and gore: It's not horror, it's just gimmicks and torture porn.

You can spend a lot of time and effort constructing a truly intelligent and deviously written movie, or just chuck a cat at the camera with a scare chord in the background and call it a day. Which cheap and easy option do you think most directors and studios are going to go with? Writing a truly scary story is fucking hard.

I personally find jump scares very scary and unpleasant

I like a few jump scares along with psychological horror, they're boring when they're overused but a little goes a long way. A well-timed jump scare can be really fun.

I think jump scared can be used well, but much like gore they so rarely are and horror movie creators rely on them rather than use them sparingly for effect. But overall yeah I’d rather little to no jump scares and play on my mind more.
