Eustass Kidd on One Piece was both of those at some point.

People hyped him up years ago and then when he didn't live up to those expectations, those same people are now trashing him. The hate he gets is ridiculous. And meanwhile I'm over here, still loving him for being the violent, cocky little psycho he is and always has been.
