my gender is also weird and personal; i think this makes perfect sense

Same, honestly. My current character is male so I'm absolutely fine with people using male pronouns when referring to him in game. They're talking about him, not me, so why would they use female pronouns?

Yeah.. I think OP means in meta, like in OOC chats?

Everything really, if I'm raiding with a random group and playing a male elf just call me he/him in Discord, I am nothing but a bunch of pixels to them. "But what are you reaaally" shouldn't matter at all, I'm not their friend

ofc people who are actual friends already know

Huh. In all games I ever played, assumptions were always "unless otherwise specified, player gender=character gender" so I just never ran into what you described and nobody ever cared. Not saying it doesn't happen, I just never personally had that issue.

DA, but right? I've always had people refer to me by the gender of my character. It's never even occurred to me to do or expect otherwise.

just noting I specified cis as in "non-gq/fluid" not that a trans female character should be referred to as "he" etc

Honestly whatever is most comfortable for you is what you should do OP. I like to be referred to by she with friends as they know me, but strangers? Nah they can call me by whatever pronouns my toon is because I do not want the hassle of a certain breed of gamer nerd finding out I’m a lady irl. So I get it in some way.

Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t give a stuff about what others think.

Sounds completely reasonable to me.
