Dressing Up For a Show/Movie/Etc...

(Anonymous) 2023-08-26 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your thoughts on dressing up in cosplay or an outfit inspired by a character to see a movie or show? Is it eh, pointless or just fun and like dressing for a convention?

Inspired by the fact that I'm going to be seeing the Death Note Musical and I'm genuinely thinking about dressing up as L minus the hair style.

If you want to then knock yourself out, just make sure anything bulky or tall can be removed when you are seated. A costume with extrawide shoulders and a top hat which can't be removed is not going to earn you friends among the people beside or behind you.

I've done it before. For all the Star Wars premiers I went to. A few MCU movies. Various other things. It is fun.

I think Its harmless fun. I've definitely dressed up for movies in the past, but of course just as long as the costume doesn't get in anyone else's way.

Went in costume to the midnight showing of one of the LotR movies, back in the day. I think it's a lot of fun, especially if you have a group.

I did too, we had the whole fellowship in movie-accurate(ish) costumes and go a photo on the front page of the newspaper.

I wouldn't do it anymore, even though I still cosplay a lot. I just don't hve the emotional connection to anything to give that much of a shit.

OMG! One of my friends and I dressed up in our Ring Wraith cloaks when we watched the final movie. This one dude went there alone and he was front of the line, and he sparked up a conversation with me, my friend and my brothers. Fun night! One of my other friends was working at that theatre and she gave us free popcorn and drinks!!

I love to see it! In any form but the more people get into dressing up the more I love it! Real life is so boring, why not have a little fun and dress up for a special occasion, even if it's "just" a movie or show?
Going to an actual show, I would LOVE to dress up for it. Your outfit sounds amazing! I love L! I hope you dress up and enjoy the musical!

I participate in it myself but I don't go all out. Like, I haven't seen "Barbie" yet but when I do I want to wear a pink girly outfit and do my hair and put on a little makeup. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan so when I go watch Spider-Man movies I wear a Spider-Man t-shirt or do a red and white theme eyeshadow makeup look.
I always, at minimum, show up to every movie I watch as if it's date night, even if it's just by myself or a casual weekend early afternoon screening with my sister. Because they are special outings to me XD

One of the funnest memories for me was when I was a teen and the first Pirates of the Caribbean was out and a couple dudes were dressed up as pirates at the theatres. XD
