What is this whole thing about "never whistle in the woods" that I keep seeing pop up on conspiracy theory message boards?

Influx of creepypasta/nosleep stories. It's apparently a superstition in several cultures across the globe including some Native American tribes - basically another skinwalker-related thing and skinwalkers have been popular in creepy story communities for a quite wile.

NAYRT
From my South East Asian background, I recall by proxy a superstition from my teens about how if we visited Thailand, not to whistle while walking through the woods or at night because you are calling out to dead spirits to follow you home.

I can't answer that for you, since I don't know you personally, but I can tell you that in my case it's a mix of stubbornness plus cultivating an interest in what's going on around me, not really big world events but finding out about little things. I hope you find your reasons, as well.

Does ff.net still have people working there (either as staff or volunteers) or is it a ghost site that just still has visitors? I mean someone must be paying for the servers.

Yes they do. They were doing server upgrades just last week.
