Astolat was the person who came up with the idea for Ao3; I have my issues with the site and OTW as it's currently run, but those are on the admin and volunteer coordination/treatment side, not the archive part.

I wasn't in or even really aware of her friend group back in the day, but there are still people carrying around old grudges and drama about and against them from before Ao3 existed.

LOL It's been over FIFTEEN YEARS. People need to learn how to let shit GO, especially over some stranger on the goddamned internet.

She gave the acceptance speech for AO3 winning a Hugo Award.

Apparently she also spearheaded the creation of Vividcon, which I'm pretty sure was a huge deal in vidding fandom for quite a few years, and the Yuletide exchange.

I'm totally at odds with almost all of her inclinations as a writer, but man, I can't deny how utterly invaluable her contributions to fandom have been.
