Oh, same. The strong finnic (and scandinavian) pagan influence on the worldbuilding was what got me to love this comic. As you said, it's her life to live, but I still can't help but to feel a little resentful that she felt she had to abandon this.

I bookmarked the webcomic because I kinda lost interest and stopped reading but thought "meh, might continue someday" and this comment in the secret thread made me delete the bookmark.
I don't generally have anything against Christians or any other religious person but in my experience, people in fandom who suddenly get on the "I converted to this religion" train have always been amongst the most zealous people I've seen. I guess it's mainly because when this happens very suddenly, there are cult-like structures to blame for it. And new converts tend to be especially zealous about their newfound religion in general but get a cult involved and shit gets dialled up to eleven.

This. I'm always hoping that they wise up at at least manage to get out of the cult, but that doesn't always happen and it's sad. It also doesn't help that religious groups like that seek out people in vulnerable positions in their lives and prey on them.

Yeah, most people who convert are like this and that goes triple when it's a cultish situation. And that includes the people who suddenly become atheists and treat *that* like a religion. It's so annoying!

Oof. I stopped reading a long time ago (I just kind of...forgot about it). Did her conversion change the webcomic's writing? Like someone said above, it had a lot of pagan influences.

She describes it as "converting", but her family was already Christian and she didn't even switch brands, she's just re-committing to the faith she was raised with. So there were already Christian elements in the comic before her pseudo-conversion, and I don't think they got any stronger afterward.

The biggest effect is that lot of readers thought the end of SSSS was draggy and anticlimactic, and suspected her heart wasn't in it.

(...Like someone else guessed above, she talks about being in what sounds like a major mental health crisis when she "converted", and there's a bunch of culty overtones in how she approaches it. That sure as hell shows up really overtly in her *next* comic.)

Oh, that's sad to hear. :0( I know several people who escaped cults. It's so incredibly easy to fall into them.

Oh damn. I liked this comic. I didn't follow it for some time and kinda forget about it. But it's sad

Ahh, how appropriate, I've just started reading the comic shortly after I found out what happened with the creator. Er, that is, I didn't read it because she converted to Christianity, just that it reminded me I've had the webcomic bookmarked for years and the news gave me the kick I needed to go read SSSS.
