As a long-time DC fan, ;_____;

I mean, I definitely don't think that was their strategy because that would imply they had a strategy. Someone else pointed out in the last DCEU-related thread here that they kept changing in-production movies based on the reaction to movie they had just released, and yeah. They really had no faith in their own products.

(This is also probably the wrong place to gush about how I saw & loved Blue Beetle last week, but fuck yeah Blue Beetle. Wish we weren't getting Jaime and his adorable family right before the whole DCU reset.)

I just don't think they had a plan which is why their attempts to set up a connected universe didn't work, and tbh I'd have liked the DC movies to be that: movies about superheroes without trying to link them together because there's some DC movies I like but they're the more stand-alone ones.

That being said I don't think they're solely to blame for the complaints about Marvel movies currently, because to me Marvel has hit a samey rut that they don't seem interested in crawling out of. I think they're doing too much and the enjoyment quality has dropped as a result.

I’ve never heard anyone attribute superhero fatigue to DC. The DCU is just not that big of a deal and doesn’t have the huge following MCU has. And there is A LOT less DCU to choose from than MCU. When people say they’re sick of superheroes, they’re talking about MCU.

Given how badly the WB screwed up the DCEU, it's enough to wonder if they ever had any intention of pulling this off or was it all some kind of elaborate Producers-style scam we can't parse out?

Then again, with Zaslav, given how badly he's running the WB, you could tell me that he had some kind of revelation about the futile pursuit of power and wealth then set out to bring his company down from within, and I'd have a hard time not believing you.

Marvel sucks because no one cares about Ant Man and the Widow movie was a snooze fest. DC sucks because it sucks even when it's not woke, such as Superman Vs Batman. I walked out of that movie. Paid for a ticket, got my ass there and just walked out, it was that terrible.
