Re: What are your controversial non-fandom opinions?

I wish leash laws had harsher penalties regardless of breed. I (and my dog!) have been attacked on multiple occasions by dogs who running around off the leash, whose owners swore up and down they'd never done that, wasn't like them, etc. etc. People, they're animals. You love them and that's why you think you know them, but you really, really don't know how they're going to react in unusual situations, especially ones where you're not around. STOP DELUDING YOURSELVES. In each and every case, I had my dog on a leash, and we were walking in a public area minding our own goddamn business when someone's beloved family pet ran up to us and attacked.

SO many people are all, "mY pEt iS sO wElL bEhAvEd hE dOeSn'T nEeD a lEaSh". Yes, he does. Because it's the fucking law. The law isn't based on how much of a sweetie fluffkins your dog is, it's based on the fact that in public areas that aren't designated as off the leash areas, your dog needs to be on a leash, period. You do that to protect other dogs, people AND your own dog from getting mauled if they run up to the wrong dog. If you want to let your dog off the leash, do it at home in a fenced yard or take them to a dog park. Assholes.

And for people who think their dog has good enough recall that it's okay for them to be off the leash in a public area - fuck you. It's still the law, and most of you don't have the slightest clue what good recall is. Unless you've tested your dog repeatedly while it's distracted, and it still obeys you 100%, then no, you have no clue how good the dog's recall is and you're risking your dog's life by making that assumption.

People should also have their dogs leashed because of cars.

I live in a city and the number of little dogs without leashes I've seen is insanely high. Like I could not be that owner carelessly letting my little dog run around up and down the path and close to the road because if something spooks the poor thing it could run out into traffic and get hit, and if it does it will not survive. I swear I have more anxiety about this than the dogs owners, it's nuts.

Put your damn dogs on leashes, please.

Exactly. I wasn't really aware of just how many irresponsible dog owners there were out there until I got a dog myself. It's wild how many people think it's fine to let their dogs roam off the property, run free near busy streets, all sorts of hazards.
