Re: What are your controversial non-fandom opinions?

It was very odd. My friend in Russia knew before I did, and I woke up and pottered around and finally sat down at my computer around 11 or so, to several messages from him going 'what's going on? are you okay?!!!'

Being in Missouri, I was fine, but that was a strange way to find out.

Yeah. I think it's hard to explain it these days because we get information SO much faster. But back then, not everyone had a computer, the internet was much slower. Most people where I lived didn't have a cell phone (and especially not in high school--I graduated in 2003) so we were both connected, because the internet and computers were a thing, but also disconnected because the news spread both too fast and too slow all at once. I don't know how to explain it.

I was online all the time, but it was mostly LJ and stuff like that, not like - news. And we had cable/tv, but I didn't turn it on unless there was something on I wanted to watch, and 11 in the morning or whatever was NOT prime tv for me, heh. I guess it was on the radio, but that was even less of an option, as the local stations aren't all that great around here. (Lots of country and religious crap.)
