Honestly the biggest reason I never got into the manga/anime despite a lot of talk about how decent it is, is that I hate the art-style. I agree that the way women are drawn are the worst offenders but I think they all look awful and could never get past it for the story. It's just hideous.

But I like the show and part of that is definitely because they just look like people and not weird, warped monstrosities.

One description I heard was that the female characters were identical except for hair and clothes, while the male characters were all designed by a random number generator.

That's actually not true. Yeah, a lot of the female characters have the same body type (not all of them! There's quite a few more who don't have the extreme hourglass figure) but their faces are usually unique.

And Oda definitely has preferred body types for his male characters as well, which you can see in East Blue male characters.

Nah, the major female characters gravitate strongly toward the Nami baseline. Tashigi and Vivi's faces are barely distinct from Nami anymore, and Rebecca's never was. At least Robin can still be told apart from the others, and I guess the Wano girls and Yamato have some distinguishing features to them.

Kalifa, Big Mom, Madam Shirley, all three of the Boa sisters, Dadan, Shakki, Pudding, Violet, Camie, Kiwi and Mozu, Charlotte Amande, Brulee, Kokoro, Miss Monday, Terracotta, Lola and Chiffon,... All just Nami in a wig?

These are literally just the ones off the top of my head.

Don't get wrong, I agree that that the characters you listed are more or less the same base design (I would add Makino to that list as well).

But the "every female character looks like Nami" argument holds far less water to me than the "all the female characters have the same body shape" argument. The latter has far less counter examples than the Nami argument.

Same. I'm ambivalent about the weird-looking characters, because I can accept that as stylistic, but every woman looking Like That? No thanks.
