Main stream Fandom Drama
(Anonymous) 2023-10-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)Run down: a fan recreated a meme (an old vine?) on tiktok by going to a SZA concert and texting someone "SZA Wack" while at the concert.
SZA sees this (??) comments how hurt she is by it (?!) and then DMs the fan about it when she takes the comment down (??!!!????!!!)
This is Anne Rice level behavior. Insane. This sort of shit ENDS other artists.
To be clear, it's not weird that this would hurt SZA's feelings. It's weird that she's looking herself up on instagram if semi-negative comments hurt her feelings. If I were famous (the terror, ick) I'd have an official account for announcements and a secret one I actually used where I had anything related to myself blacklisted.
But for some reason the youtuber and most of the commenters are on the side of the celeb? You'd think this fan broke into her house, hijacked her wifi, and blared her meme from every screen.
I often get annoyed with how people will reach out to celebs in fandom because that crosses such lines but now we've reached some threshold where celebs will reach out to fans.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-02 05:17 am (UTC)(link)I think SZA could have simply ignored the post but I also think she's within her right to engage with the fan.
IMO this was SZA's attempt at reminding fans that she is a human being who sees and hears a lot of stuff that are said about her.
It's an attempt to appeal to others' compassion and humanity.
"What may seem like harmless fun to you can actually be hurtful to the person your whole joke is about. Think on that."
And to have the fans shrug and say, "You're famous why do you care?"
It's in-line with the "I'm just a dumb rando on the internet trolling why are you getting upset at my racist jokes?"/"so what if what I said hurt your feelings, grow thicker skin" of the world.
When confronted with the fact that your joke is a bad one, instead of reflecting on why your target didn't find your joke funny, you dig your heels into the sand and say it's not your fault.
I'm no longer hand holding asshole jokesters who can't self reflect on the barest minimum of basic human decency.
If you want people to treat your humanity with respect and compassion, maybe do the same to others.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-02 10:48 am (UTC)(link)I don't really interested in this drama, but there is really a huge difference between vanity searching and then getting mad, and someone calling your attention to their bad joke and getting mad that you don't like this joke. If this fan did @, it's on them and they can gtfo
