Context IS fun. For example, Hamas is a group using horrifying violence to defend a people who are being actively colonised and displaced and win back that land, and Israel is a state using horrifying violence to actively colonise and displace those people. Sometimes even the same act of violence can look a bit different in context, depending on the intent and effect...

I'm not very familiar with this situation, but if you're more hung up on who or what is worse than you are with the fact that people are being harmed, then you need to do some serious self-reflection.

I think Palestinians are pretty much being harmed on a daily basis. What with the settler clearances, the destruction of Palestinian olive farms, the tapping of Palestinian water sources, the whole herding them into walled open air city-jails, denying them food, water, medical supplies, even cement for building, plus all the Palestinians who are shot, or bludgeoned to death, or ran over by vehicles -such as bulldozers- all by the Israeli military.

Presumably you are gonna try justifying this as preemptive self defense. I gotta say though, if someone came into the land where I was living for generations and started that, I'd resist by any means necessary too.

Yes. Fuck Hamas, I am not pro-Hamas, but the fact is that their stated goals and their entire reason for being is in reaction to the disgusting colonisation Palestinians have been subjected to. That doesn't automatically justify their actions, which is my entire point - Hamas being bad cannot justify everything Israel has done! You can't colonise a people and then get all high and mighty and anti-violence about some of those people fighting back!

Especially ridiculous to suggest that any homophobia on Hamas' part means Israel Good given Israel's treatment of LGBT Palestinians. And to be clear, the views and aims of Hamas are NOT the views and aims of ALL Palestinian people, just as the views and aims of the Israeli government are not the views and aims of all Israeli people, and certainly not all Jewish people worldwide. Don't wanna let that go unsaid here.

Obviously you are very invested in believing that Israel is totally justified, for whatever reason, so you're not going to change your mind in the course of this conversation. That's fine. But I would urge you to give those sources a read - consider them bullshit if you like, but at least have that knowledge. It can't do you any harm.

ukraine isn't regularly trying to bomb russia the way palestine is israel.

and i already gave the articles a look before, it's nothing i havent heard before.

also funny how the author for one of them admits they're a "gay Palestinian citizen of Israel". Why would that be?

Israel isn't perfect but it does take in LGBT+ folks that request asylum from the Terrortories or other regions in the area that are beaten, maimed, harassed, bullied. I don't know how many or how few but it does take them in and they get some money to survive.
