I find this interesting OP, because the majority of trans!character fix I come across doesn't mention anything about their transition or experience as trans, and the only way it affects the story is the description of genitals during sex scenes. Which I personally find a bit annoying because sometimes I would like to read about the trans character's journey.

Might just be the fandom. It's predisposed to a lot of angst due to the background/character's profession. So mostly all the fic that's there, even if it doesn't mention it outright, the fact that it's set in a reality like ours makes it almost unavoidable to not think about the implications.

That fandom is also rife with all sorts of depressing angst ridden scenarios sooooo yeahhhh. Lol. I've mostly just don't read them unless I'm in for some heavy angst.

I've totally seen both types be the main type of trans!fic in different fandoms. I think it depends on what the fandoms' general tastes are. When the fic leans all one way or another it can be rather dull. But then again, that's true of fic trends involving any subject matter and any popular headcanons.

Depends on fandom. For example one of my fandoms with popular trans!headcanon is heavy on plots with character living through all sort of shitty situations but now! situations are shitty but his boyfriend isn't.

And some of my fandoms just do it for porn
