Just think, how many "magic school" series can you name off the top of your head? How many come up if you do a quick search online? They may share common elements but they aren't the same story because the authors have their own unique perspectives and ways of handling the premise. They have different plots, different characters, different styles. Your story will be compared to others, but that's okay. It's part of writing a new entry in a popular genre. It's impossible *not* to be inspired by what exists. Your story will also have your own touch that only you can bring. If that's the project you're excited to work on, go for it!
