No one uses the word 'tragedy' in fandom. It was a genre on FFnet and nowhere else.
Also angst means torture, sad flashbacks, emotional turmoil. It's the opposite of fluff. Idk why the hatebonner for the good old angst by OP.

So, anyone who would know, is this actually a big problem in whatever Star Trek fandom this is about? I would have thought fic tagged with tragedy that just has mildly moping characters would get some non F!S criticism.

U do u but it's rare to use it. I took a quick look on my AO3 bookmarks with some Ctrl F and 0 fics use this tag.

What'd u say is the difference between Tragedy and angst?

Though, sometimes when I've been desperate I've read a fic or two in a fandom I'm unfamiliar with and every so often it sparks lasting interest. So I would recommend giving that a go if you can force yourself.

depends on wich ST we're talking about. TOS started in the 60s so it's been a lot of separate fandoms.

Angst is a state of mind that can be depicted in isolation. Tragedy is a process, depicted through a series of events. I think of tragedy like turning a screw deeper and deeper into wood as the wood cracks and buckles.
